Inside, thirteen prehistoric beasts and a multitude of fascinating science exhibitions – from spectacular minerals to live frogs from around the world – await discovery. There’s something for everyone to explore.

Special Exhibitions
Discover National Geographic Crittercam: The World Through Animal Eyes on display at The Woodlands Xploration Station through February 2009. Crittercam, a scientific video- and data-gathering tool safely worn by wild animals, was invented by National Geographic marine biologist Greg Marshall to capture unique insight into animal behavior and clues to help protect animals and the world we share. Through interactive displays, firsthand footage, and evocative environments, visitors can explore the stories of animals all over the world, including seals and sea lions, sharks, sea turtles, whales, penguins, bears and lions. Learn more.
We ROCK! Explore Geopalooza, an unparalleled array of amazing geological wonders. Marvel at massive amethyst and citrine geodes taller than a person jammed with gleaming purple and golden crystals. Admire an array of huge mineral crystals, intricately crystallized slices of petrified wood, and an amazing collection of fossils, including trilobites with astonishingly delicate antennae perfectly preserved. Then, step into the pitch black of a mine tunnel and marvel at the rainbow-colored glow of hundreds of fluorescent minerals from Franklin, New Jersey.

Permanent Exhibitions
Be a paleontologist for a day at the Xcavation Station, where you can uncover cast dinosaur bones. Join in on the action as the HMNS paleontology team uncovers a real fossilized skeleton of the fierce pre-dinosaur Dimetrodon in the Paleontology Prep Lab. Then, walk among dinosaurs and other creatures in our Paleontology exhibit, featuring full-sized specimens, including one of the world’s largest juvenile Triceratops, Raymond; a fighting Protoceratops and Velociraptor; and a full sized Acrocanthosaurus skull.
Marvel at vibrant, multi-ton geodes in an exhibit on Mineralogy. Discover insects, arachnids, and other spectacular live insects from around the world in our Bug Zoo. Navigate an interactive Woodlands Maze that introduces visitors to local plant and animal life. Explore the principles of physics through interactive exhibits in the Fondren Discovery Center and then relax with a film in our mini-theater.
Hop on over to our new collection of living frogs, featuring everything from the aptly named Giant African Bullfrog, to tiny, vibrant Strawberry Dart Frogs, to an array of local American Bullfrog Tadpoles and many more. Don’t miss your chance to see these colorful croakers from around the globe!
